The Channel Islands include Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Sark, Herm, Breqhou and Jethou with all except the latter two islands being fantastic locations for weekend breaks and longer holidays. These islands are conveniently situated between the South Coast of England and the French Coast, making them easily accessible for holiday-makers and business travellers from both Mainland Europe and the UK.
Travel to Jersey and Guernsey, Channel Islands
For those desiring to bring their own transport over, both islands have regular ferry sailings (operated by Condor Ferries) from the French port of St. Malo and the UK ports of Weymouth, Poole and Portsmouth. Excellent visitor marina facilities are also available in and around the ports of St. Helier in Jersey and St. Peter Port in Guernsey.
Jersey and Guernsey both have modern airports with flights connecting the islands to European destinations such as Zurich, Paris, Dinard and Geneva and to the UK airports of Southampton, London, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Exeter and Norwich.
Jersey Badminton Facilities
Located in the island's capital of St. Helier, the Jersey Badminton Association was first established in 1924 and is also the island's governing body for the sport. There are excellent facilities available for both members and non-members of the association at The New Gilson Hall, which offers badminton players a choice of five purpose-built courts available at competitive rates. Courts may be booked through checking availability and rates on the association's website.
For both newcomers and holiday-makers, the Grainville Badminton Club offers the opportunity to play friendly matches at the New Gilson Hall on Tuesday and Friday evenings.
Guernsey Badminton Facilities
The Guernsey Badminton Association is situated within walking distance from the main town of St. Peter Port and is the island's governing body for the sport. There is an extensive programme available offering both club and league games with club play from Monday-Thursday. Facilities at the Badminton Hall include purpose built courts with wood sprung/semi-spring flooring, public telephone, changing rooms, showers and cafe which provides hot/cold refreshments during clubs and tournaments.
Badminton clubs run from 7-11pm throughout the season which begins 1st September and ends 30th April. Visitors are very welcome to try out the different clubs on offer for around £4 per evening which is reimbursed if one decides to become a member.
As highlighted above, Guernsey and Jersey both have excellent facilities for badminton players of all abilities with visitors welcome to attend on club evenings. There also regular inter-island competitions and events throughout the badminton season.
