Recovery from an eating disorder takes an enormous amount of strength, determination and most importantly of all, support. While therapy, medication, residential, inpatient, daypatient and outpatient support help, the most important forms of support are often those that you can access at any time, day or night. These sources of support, may include those close to you, self-help forums, journals, eating disorder associations and YouTube videos.
Eating Disorder Recovery Videos
In my recovery from anorexia nervosa, I have at times found that simply watching a recovery video on YouTube, made by another sufferer, has helped to remind me of all the reasons why recovery is worth the fight. One particular sufferer, who goes by the name of HoldingOn has created many inspirational, motivational and insightful videos, specifically aimed at helping those in recovery, contemplating recovery and to educate the general public on what it really means to have an eating disorder.
When it is 3 am and you are lying awake with the many eating disorder thoughts trying to sabotage recovery, consider watching and listening to eating disorder recovery videos. The combination of seeing the promises and hope recovery offer together with inspiring quotes, powerful images and music, may help to fade the noise of the illness.
YouTube Eating Disorder Recovery Videos by HoldingOn
A word of warning before accessing YouTube, some pro anorexia videos will certainly be present, this is why I strongly recommend searching for those by HoldingOn and then adding them to your favourites. This way, you can go straight to a pro-recovery video, rather than having to run the risk of being triggered by unhelpful content. Here is a list of the videos on recovery that have been a terrific help to me, in recent years:
- when recovery really sucks
- anorexia recovery: never give up
- anorexia recovery quotes
- eating disorder recovery
- more eating disorder recovery quotes
- recovery one day at a time
When Recovery Really Sucks, Never Give Up
Two videos by HoldingOn that are ideal when you find yourself thinking that recovery is just too damn hard, include 'when recovery really sucks' and 'anorexia recovery: never give up.' Sometimes we all need to be reminded of why we wanted recovery in the first place and just how incredible life can be without the havoc eating disorders cause to daily life. How about making your own recovery video? It can be incredibly cathartic and your experiences may help many other sufferers looking to understand what recovery is about and why it is so important to get support.
As highlighted above, eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, EDNOS (eating disorder not otherwise specified) require much support for suffers to maintain a healthy recovery. While therapy, medication, nutritionists, doctors and support groups all can help, sometimes listening and watching an eating disorder recovery video, including those by HoldingOn on YouTube can offer motivation and comfort, especially when it is the middle of the night and other support cannot be accessed.
